Brock – Davis, CA

BrockNameBrock has been diagnosed with Laryngeal Paralysis (a condition that affects his breathing). This condition is not a death sentence as it can managed by ensuring that he’s kept in a cool environment and doesn’t get overexerted. The surgery to treat this condition is expensive; and it is not always successful. Pre-surgery risks include the administering of anesthesia; post-surgery risk include aspiration pneumonia. As the procedure needs to be done by a specialist and is estimated to be $6000, we will not be pursuing surgery at this time. Because he can have 10 days or 10 years (the latter with the proper management of the condition), we will be placing Brock as a Hospice egghead. Is there a special home out there for this super sweet lovebug? He’s a very happy-go-lucky guy who is not in discomfort at this time. More information on Laryngeal Paralysis can be found here: http://www.marvistavet.com/html/laryngeal_paralysis.html

A video of Brock at the shelter can be found here – he’s a truly sweet guy!

Gemma – Sebastopol, CA – – ADOPTED

GemmaKelseyvilleNameGemma is a very affectionate and playful girl who’s about 1 to 1.5 years old.  She’s a petite 36lb girl who did not play well with the small dogs at the shelter and seems intimidated by the medium/large ones there. Gemma LOVES her toys and seems to like semi-hoarding them, but she’s willing to share if you throw them for her!  She likes to show off and prance around with a squeaky toy as well.  Please give us a holler if you can help foster this silly girl!  She arrives at our boarding kennel on or about 4/29.

Shelby – Sebastopol, CA – – ADOPTED

ShelbyMedSweet Shelby became a year old on May 28.  Her family needed to find her a new home as she eats grass and any object that’s not nailed down to the floor.  As all parts of their huge camphor tree are toxic to dogs, they are afraid that she will be poisoned by the leaves, berries and branches that often fall on the ground.  Shelby is crate, leash and about 50% house trained as she spends most of her time in a crate or in the yard.  This 40lb cupcake is wonderful with children of all ages (she’s been great with the 2 and 3 year olds in her original and current homes); and she gets along wonderfully with the female cattle dog in the family.  We think that with lots of exercise, mental stimulation and diet changes/supplements, her landsharking ways will diminish.  She’s not destructive with furniture, just items on the ground.  Do you have room in your heart and home for this sweet girl?

Winston – ADOPTED!

WinstonSofaNameWinstonNOscarNameWinston is a fantastic guy who is about 6 years old.  He has a great disposition – very laidback and is generally not bothered by small/medium dogs, even if they get snarfy at him.  He was attacked by a larger dog and seems to now be cautious at the sight of the larger woofers.  We do not know how he’ll do with cats.  Winston is very social and does very well in crowded environments.  He has not yet met young children but has been wonderful with the ones 8+ years old.  He’s a true velcro dog that loves being on the couch with or without you; he loves to snuggle and be your TV buddy.  He is crate, house and leash trained.  He is afraid of water, even the water hose.  Winston has exhibited some food aggression towards the resident dogs (two female Labs) in his foster home but that has been a non-issue once everyone was fed in separate areas.  This lovebug weighs about 45 pounds.

Please check out Winston’s video – he was missing his foster mom when she was traveling (yes, he can swear like a sailor!).

Patty – ADOPTED!

NapaBrindlePattyPlayful Patty is about 1.5 to 2 years old.  She’s very social and happy-go-lucky.  At the shelter, she wanted to play with the female Rat Terrier that she was tested with.  This little muffin weighs about 35lbs.  Patty would love a foster home…please let us know if you have a place for her to hang her little coat.  Stay tuned for updates as well learn more about her.  If we can get a fostering commitment, we can spring her from the shelter on or about 4/24.  Thanks for any consideration!  ~Suz

Katie, Sebastopol – ADOPTED

KatieKatie is an outgoing girl who tested very well at the shelter with a female Rat Terrier and a large male pit bull mix – – all she wanted to do was play with them!  We don’t know how she is with children and cats but she is wonderful with people.  She seems to be unfazed by the shelter stay and apparently thinks that Life is one big party.  Katie is about 2 years old; and she weighs about 50 pounds.  Would anyone have room to foster/foster-to-adopt this little girl?

Belle, Sebastopol – – ADOPTED!

BelleBelle is a very affectionate 40lb girl who LOVES to play.  She is selective with other dogs and doesn’t play well with the small ones.  We don’t know how she’ll do with smaller children nor cats.  She’s very active but will calm down with two longer daily walks.  Belle is about 2 years old and she’s still very much a puppy.  She is crate and leash trained, and will likely need a refresher on leash training.  This little muffin is very headstrong so she’ll require a definite leader who will finally give her some much needed structure.  Her skin issues have been resolved so she is now ready for her new home!

Roxy – Stockton

RoxyNathanNameRoxyName

2yo Roxy is great with dogs and with cats that don’t beat her up.  She is WONDERFUL with the 6yo autistic son in her family.  Her owner is a single dad who is finding it difficult to care for his son and a pet.  Roxy is 25-30lbs; she is crate and leash trained.  She’s been having accidents but it may be from the stress of having her quality time greatly curtailed.

Hugo – Not Available

Hugo
4/21 UPDATE:  Hugo’s owners could not bear to give him up so they will continue looking for pet-friendly housing.

Hugo is a 1.5yo guy whose family is faced with housing issues. He is your typical young, energetic Bull Terrier who calms down to Affectionate Couch Potato speed once he has his requisite two good daily walks. He is good with dogs that can match his sometimes rough play style but seems to annoy the older, calm dogs. It is unknown how he’ll do with the kitties. He is great with older children but can unintentionally knock the younger ones down. Hugo is crate, house and leash trained. Anyone have room in your heart and hope for this 45-50lb goofball? If we don’t have your information on file, our application can be found here: http://www.bullterrierrescue.org/?page_id=572

TKO – San Francisco

TKOShelterMugshotTKOSmileNameTKOswingName

TKO flunked all of his shelter tests as he was terrified  in the shelter.  He’s been polite with calm dogs but has been reactive to the ones that snarf at him or have a higher/nervous energy level.  We found a big sweetheart that can redirect when stressed but he’ll wind down quickly if calming signals are given.  We’re giving TKO ample time to decompress and adapting to a home environment before we start to gently push his buttons.  TKO is about 3 years old; he weighs in at about 65-70 pounds.  He loves riding in cars and sitting on swings.

Please stay tuned for TKO’s progress!
